چکیده

Neutrinos are the principal messengers reaching us from the center of a supernova. Terrestrial neutrino telescopes can provide precious information about the processes in the core of the star. But the information that a neutrino detector can supply is restricted by the fact that little experimental data on the neutrino-nucleus cross sections exist and by the uncertainties in theoretical calculations. In this Letter, we propose a novel procedure that determines the response of a target nucleus in a supernova-neutrino detector, by using low-energy beta beams. We show that fitting "synthetic" spectra, constructed by taking linear combinations of beta-beam spectra, to the original supernova-neutrino spectra reproduces the folded differential cross sections very accurately. Comparing the response in a detector to these synthetic responses provides a direct way to determine the main parameters of the supernova-neutrino energy distribution.

Untangling supernova-neutrino oscillations with beta-beam data

Neutrinos are the only particles able to reach the earth straight from the center of a core-collapse supernova. But the information that can be gathered from their signal in a terrestrial detector is limited by the fact that little experimental data on neutrino-nucleus interactions exists and by uncertainties in theoretical calculations. Neutrino oscillations are a further complication : the en...

Resolving Ambiguities in the Neutrino Mass-Flavour Spectrum from Supernova Neutrinos

We analyze the neutrino conversions inside a supernova in the 3ν mixing scheme, and their effects on the neutrino spectra observed at the earth. We find that the observations of the energy spectra of neutrinos from a future galactic supernova may enable us to identify the solar neutrino solution, to determine the sign of ∆m32, and to probe the mixing matrix element |Ue3| to values as low as 10−...

Earth Matter Effects on the Supernova Neutrino Spectra

We explore the earth matter effects on the energy spectra of neutrinos from a supernova. We show that the observations of the energy spectra of νe and ν̄e from a galactic supernova may enable us to identify the solar neutrino solution, to determine the sign of ∆m 32 , and to probe the mixing matrix element |Ue3| to values as low as 10. We point out scenarios in which the matter effects can even ...

a very first low - energy beta - beam

We describe the importance of having low-energy (10-100 MeV) neutrino beams produced through the decay of boosted radioactive ions (“beta-beams”). We focus on the interest for neutrino-nucleus interaction studies and their impact for astrophysics, nuclear and particle physics. In particular, we discuss the relation to neutrinoless double-beta decay. Finally, we mention the status as far as the ...

Neutrino Events from Sn1987a Revisited * * *

The e − and e + energy spectra from the SN1987A Supernova neutrino burst interactions are calculated and compared to the observed spectra in Kamiokande-II and IMB experiments. Neutrino oscillations in Supernova and regeneration effects in the Earth, for four combinations of neutrino mass hierarchy (Direct/Inverted) and the value of the mixing angle θ 13 (Large/Small), are taken into account. Th...
